"Pujiang Innovation Forum - 2020 International Science and Technology Innovation Think Tank Forum" took place on September 28, 2020 in Shanghai. The forum was hosted by Shanghai Institute for Science of Science (SISS), and was supported by the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and the Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development (CASTED). The forum conducted around the theme "Innovation Systems and Sources of Innovation", which discusses topics such as ways to improve the performance of innovation systems, the top-level design, path exploration and institutional arrangements that realizes the functions of sources of innovation. 12 experts from leading domestic and international science and technology innovation think tanks delivered speeches, around 100 scholars and experts attended the forum.
HU Zhijian, President of CASTED, the Chairman of the Forum, delivered a welcoming speech; ZHU Qigao, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a welcoming speech. The opening ceremony was hosted by Shi Qian, the director of SISS.
The Forum was conducted in ways that combines both online and offline activities, experts from think tanks such as CASTED, Institutes of Science and Development of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Association for Science and Technology, RAND Corporation, University of Edinburgh, Fraunhofer ISI, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, Shanghai Federation of Social Science Association, Shanghai Library (Institute of Scientific & Technical Information of Shanghai) and SISS took part. The topics discussed at the forum include “a ‘Dual Circulation’ of Both Domestic and International Cycle that Pushes Forward the Construction of the National Innovation Systems”, “China and the US: the Potential and the Propensity for Innovation”, which studied key topics such as the construction of regional innovation systems, ways to improve functions of sources of innovation among different countries and regions with diverse analytical angles. The valuable insights from the forum support the policy goal of building Shanghai into a science and technology innovation center with global influence.
The Forum has been successfully held for five sessions, as a themed sub-forum for Pujiang Innovation Forum, the event focuses on innovation development, and has formed considerable social impact by working to build an exchange platform for top science, technology and innovation think tanks.
